Vigeland Sculpture Park

One of the artistic highlights of Norway is the Sculpture Park in Oslo. Vigeland Sculpture Park is located in west of the Oslo city centre.

The park contains 192 sculptures with more than 600 figures. Probably the most famous park in Norway, it was created by sculptor Guastav Vigeland between the years 1907 and 1942.

Most of the sculptures date from the years 1926 to 1942. The park has as its theme what could be called the "Human Condition." Most of the statues depict people engaging in various typically human persuits, such as running, wrestling, dancing, hugging, holding hands and so on.

However, Vigeland occasionally included some statues that are more abstract, and to some degree defy understanding. Such as the "Man attacked by Babies" statue, which shows an adult male, fighting off a horde of tiny babies.

One of the main attractions to the park is The Monolith. At over 14 meters tall, the column is covered with entwined human bodies and is carved out of a single block of stone.

Another well known sculpture is that of an angry young boy, located on the bridge of the park.

Vigeland park is a well known picnic area, popular in the summer for sunbathing, games, and relaxation.

The mini world in Haraldvangen, Norway

9th to 11th of February 2007, my colleague Sushil and I went to Haraldvangen 2 hours drive from Oslo the capital city Norway, where we are living currently.

The programme was preparation seminar for the school project organized by FK or Fredskorpset Norway. We the FK participants from different parts of the world working in Norway gathered there to discuss on Millennium Development goals- MDGs and the North-South Issues. We also discuss about the Norwegian society, school systems and prepare the presentation for the School visit that we are going to do soon.

During the stay we did some extra activities, like Skiing, axe throwing, arrow, and scoter riding and many more. The most interesting part is, it was my first ski attempt, and I fell down many times. Actually not only me but most of the south participant were so excited for experience the ski in Norway, which we did. The temperature was minus 23 degree. There is a lake but that was frozen completely. We did ski over the frozen lake.

In fact it was wonderful opportunity to enjoy and learn some thing that I never experienced before. Here are some snaps of those wonderful moments I spend there; I just wanted to share with you. Just check it out, and do write the comment if you like.
