Usually I don't drink, but some time, if there are special occasion then I use to try. This time it was not the special occasion but I drink a glass of beer during our north Norway visit.
On the way to North Cape, we reached Honningsvåg by bus from karasjok. It was evening time and raining outside. We did not book the hotel to stay; since it was raining we entered to the café pub near the bus stop for a cup of tea for Sushil and coffee for me. When were drinking the coffee, I just pickup a local news paper. Though almost all the news papers published in Norway are in Norwegian language, we use to look at and try to understand and mostly we look at the advertisements that are made nicely.
Suddenly I saw an advertisement in English among others and it was about the beer that is produced locally. And it says Worlds Northern most breweries beer. I asked to the sales person about the beer. She showed me the machine in the corner of the pub and described about the plant.
My colleague Sushil never drinks alcohol and he is also vegetarian but is I am not. He insists me to drink at least a glass of worlds northern most breweries beer. I agreed and I drink a glass of beer. During my almost one year stay in Norway this is the 2nd time I drink the alcohol.
There are no special reasons that I normally don't drink alcohol, simply I don't like the test. And also I am aware of the result after the people got drunk, and of course the budget. I describe the drink to much alcohol is wastage of the resources.
I spend 45 Norwegian Kroner for a glass of beer.
If I calculate the price, the amount is enough to feed my family for day or I could buy nice clothes for kids. But main reason is, it does not test good for me.
Some friends of mine could disagree on my logic or some could say its poor thought. But it's my personal views. And I enjoyed a glass of worlds northern most breweries beer in Honningsvåg.
Because of cold weather and also the wealthy country, high consumption of alcoholic beverage is recognizing as normal in Norway. Many Norwegians seen in the pub during weekend and enjoy the drink.
I observed many drunken men in the street but one really positive and impressive nature I found with Norwegian is they not very aggressive and rarely fights each other or they are less harmful then the drunken people from south.
One more experience I observed in the Riddu Riddu festival at Kåfjord in July, 07. The Riddu Riddu festival is organized by SAMI indigenous people from Norway.
There were so many programs in the festival, but many people are drunken people except the organizer, artists and the volunteers. Rests of all were enjoying the festival drinking a lot of alcohol.
